National Splurge Day was was invented from whole-cloth in 1994 by Adrienne Sioux Koopersmith, a lady who describes herself as "America's premier eventologist." Though there are no Hallmark cards for it, there's nothing stopping us from treating this like it's a real thing, so we will!
