Today is National Grab Some Nuts Day!

There are many “nut” days throughout the year such as National Almond Day, National Pistachio Day, National Pecan Day but August 3rd embraces all of them. It’s National Grab Some Nuts Day!

These little bountiful nuggets contain wholesome nutrients, have a long shelf life and can be quite portable. They add a nice crunch to snacks and desserts (especially donuts!) as well as savory meals. National Grab Some Nuts Day might seem a little squirrelly, but then again it’s the right time of year for it. Go nuts and grab a few or a lot!

Today is Get to Know Your Customers Day!

Get to Know Your Customers Day is observed annually on the third Thursday of each quarter (January, April, July, October). This is a day to reach out to our patrons and get to know you better.

Remember when Main Street businesses were locally owned and operated?

The owners knew you by name and knew your shopping habits. They typically knew what you wanted to buy, and if they didn’t have it, they were willing to get it in for you. With the advent of the Internet and big box stores, much of the personal attention has gone by the wayside. Get to Know Your Customers Day is a day to turn that around. We want to make it a point to get to know you today and make you feel like you are the most important customer of the day.

Today is National Social Media Day

We couldn't let this day go by without a shout out to all of you who like us on Facebook, THANK YOU!

Social Media Day is observed annually on June 30th. In its short life, social media has redefined how people interact, communicate and share with family, friends and the world.

With the launch of Friendster in 2002 and MySpace in 2003, social media had become mainstream. Then 2004 brought the founding of the king of social media, Facebook. Twitter encouraged us to be succinct by posting our thoughts with fewer than 140 characters. We can be social through Instagram and Flickr by sharing all the pictures and videos you love. And speaking of video, YouTube is the social place for everything from how-to to pop culture to what not to do with your fireworks on the 4th of July.

Social media has made it possible to stay connected and informed about with those important people in our lives. Reconnecting with classmates, past work associates and more is also a valuable part of social media. It has also made it possible to connect with ancestors and find relatives you never even knew existed. Yes, the family tree has become a social media platform as well. MyHeritage.com and Ancestry.com and many others all supply a social platform where distant family members have the potential to meet and built their family trees.

Today is National Donut Day

Come celebrate National Donut Day at DoughBoys Donuts and feel good knowing a portion of our proceeds will be donated to the Salvation Army!

Each year on the first Friday in June, people participate in National Doughnut or Donut Day. This day celebrates the doughnut and honors the Salvation Army Lassies, the women that served doughnuts to soldiers during WWI.

In 1917, the original “Salvation Army Doughnut” was first served by the ladies of the Salvation Army. It was during WWI that the Salvation Army Lassies went to the front lines of Europe. Home cooked foods, provided by these brave volunteers, were a morale boost to the troops.

The doughnuts were often cooked in oil inside the metal helmets of American soldiers. American infantrymen were then commonly called “doughboys.” A more standard spelling is donut.
